significant other -  Says she goes for the "Ben Stiller type." She's not married, but mentioned in November 1997 that she was "seeing someone." Rumor has it that she broke up with her music composer boyfriend in early 1998. It is unknown whom she is seeing now.

parents -  Her parents divorced when she was 2 years old. Her father, Arthur G. Altschul, wrote for the New York Times before becoming a millionaire as an investment banker. Serena is the youngest of three children. She and her two siblings were raised by their mother, Siri von Reis, a Harvard-educated scholar and poet, in a luxurious Fifth Avenue co-op.

pre-high school education -  Attended Spence School, an independent prep school for girls. It is located in the heart of New York City very close to Manhattan's Museum Mile. The school is a leader in educational technology. Gwyneth Paltrow also attended this school.

high school education -  Attended Millbrook School, a prep school in Millbrook, NY. She graduated with the class of 1989. Singer Rufus Wainwright attended this school at the same time Serena did.

college education -  Attended Scripps College for a couple of years while pursuing a degree in English Literature, but never graduated. Scripps is the women's college of the Claremont Colleges. It is located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Claremont, California, 35 miles east of Los Angeles.

career -  Before officially joining MTV News in January 1996, Serena spent two years as an anchor/reporter for Channel One News. She is currently an MTV News anchor/reporter and has been involved with MTV since 1995. In addition to anchoring hourly newscasts, she has also hosted "MTV News: UNfiltered" and she hosts and has produced several episodes of "True Life," an MTV documentary series.
